Cape Town has a growing homelessness problem, that requires innovative thinking to fix.

One such innovation is the conversion of old squash courts into spaces for the homeless.

A facility in Parow called the Centre of Hope used to be a squash club, and is now a safe space to help get homeless people back on their feet.

The club had spacious courts and shower facilities, making it a perfect foundation for the facility.

Erasmus says it took a few back-and-forth conversations with the property owners, but ultimately he supported their work.

She adds that this facility has led to overall improvement in an area that was decaying.

“It is really a community project to uplift the community.”
