International Women’s Day 2022: “Break the Bias”

March 8 every year is celebrated as International Women’s Day. The theme for this year’s celebration is “gender equality today for sustainable tomorrow” with the hashtag #BreakTheBias. International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the historical, cultural and political achievements of women.

The day is also observed in support of actions against gender inequality and breaking biases as aptly outlined on the International Women’s Day website:

Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day.

We can break the bias in our communities.

We can break the bias in our workplaces.

We can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities.

Together, we can all break the bias – on International Women’s Day and beyond.

In sync with the TY Danjuma Foundation’s vision of a Nigeria where all citizens have access to affordable quality health care, education and equal opportunities to realise their potentials, the Foundation has been supporting initiatives that promote women’s completion of universal basic education, improve access to quality and affordable healthcare services; and promote the economic empowerment of women through skills acquisition. Through acts of service and dedication, the TY Danjuma Foundation and its partners are helping to break the barriers faced by women, especially at the grassroots in accessing quality healthcare and education.

In 2022, the Foundation is continuing to promote inclusive development and breaking the barriers against women by investing in infrastructural projects that would promote access to quality education for girls in Edo state; training teachers to improve the quality of teaching in Bauchi and Plateau states; and improving access to quality maternal and child healthcare services by training of health workers and provision of emergency transport services in rural communities across Akwa Ibom, Edo, Kaduna, Niger, Oyo  and Taraba  states where there are dire needs of access to quality and affordable healthcare.

Since 2009, the TY Danjuma Foundation has awarded over ₦4.7 billion in grants for the implementation of 336 projects in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory has impacted over 10 million lives.

Under the TY Danjuma Foundation’s education initiative, we supported the All Children Charity International Foundation (ACCIF) to provide vocational training for 60 hard-of-hearing pupils of the Malali Government Technical College, Kaduna. We are proud to #BreakTheBias. #IWD2022 #TYDFImpact

Facial deformities are stigmatising and traumatising, especially for women. Through Cleft and Facial Deformities Foundation (@CFDF_Nigeria), the TY Danjuma Foundation is providing life-changing surgeries that empower women. We are proud to #BreakTheBias. #IWD2022 #TYDFImpact

Under the TY Danjuma Foundation’s education initiative, we are supporting Ideal Development and Resource Center (IDRC) to keep girls in school. We are proud to #BreakTheBias. #IWD2022 #TYDFImpact
